Alibaba.com has begun the process of rolling out a refreshed site – starting with their home page and a few small areas. One of the interesting pages that they created was the User Guide. As pictured above, it shows a clear 4 step process for how to use the site. Anytime you introduce change to your customers and user community, it is a great idea to guide them through the process. Alibaba’s user guide walks the user step by step through the process of how to use the site and sourcing.
The home page certainly got a nice facelift that some have called eBayesque, but I like how they have kept all of the navigation above the fold, kept search a centerpiece to the site, and are merchandising using “bargain buys” and “top global suppliers.” The type-ahead on the home page shows recent searches, and the results are highly relevant.
The point of this refresh is that companies in the B2B space are paying attention to the tools that they give to their customers. They know that relationships are now affected by the what they deliver to their customers online.
